Week of October 12, 2009 Monday is Columbus Day. Tuesday to Friday - I will be back to teach my science classes. I think I am going to go back and do the 2 circle graphs that need to be done and one more bar graph. Things will get back to normal I hope very soon.
Week of October 5, 2009 This week's quiz is Friday. Because I am not their we got the kids into the books quicker than normal. This being said we have skipped over quizzes 5 and 6 in the study guides and moved on to quiz #7.
Over the summer I had rewritten all my lessons for the first 10 weeks. Quizzes 5 and 6 have more graphing stuff on them along with spreadsheets information. I will work these lessons in in the future..
Please note that the above quiz study guides are out of sink with the instruction. Since I am unable to update them at the present time they will have to rely on their worksheets done in class. I will catch them up when I return and get back with what I spent the summer planning and updating. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Mr. V The kids will continue their study of Deforming the Earth's Crust. pages 112-119. Followed by a study of earthquakes. I won't be in until at least next Tuesday and only for 1/2 days when I do return. I am progressing nicely. I will teach circle graphs upon my return. Smile Mr. V
Week of September 28, 2009 Here is a rough sketch of the week's activities. As you will find out I am not in school again this week. I shall return hopefully next Monday and hopefully this will be the last of my missing school. Last week I had a few problems which involved being in the hospital for a few days and a heart catheterization. I am doing well. I have to learn to live without caffeine and a few other things. I will.

Week of September 21, 2009 Monday - this is the Autumnal Equinox. We shall construct a line graph showing how the hours of daylight are decreasing and the hours of darkness are increasing. A line graph shows change over time. Tuesday - We shall finish up our Equinox graphs and begin our 2 bean data graphs showing the root growth of the beans we worked with last week. I have put 10 beans in a cool place, a warm place, and a hot place. Wednesday - We will finish the bean graphs and collect height data from each of the 4 homerooms for another bar graph construction. Thursday will be quiz #3 it is located in the study guides above. We shall also take a look at the Earth in terms of latitude and longitude and why we have all the imaginary lines on them. Why do we have lines at 66 1/2 degrees or 23 1/2 degrees? Latitude and Longitude is like a big sheet of graph paper covering the Earth. Friday- we shall work on any graphs not completed and grade the first 5.
Week of September 14, 2009 Monday we tallied all the tongue data collected over the weekend. We then set up a data table and then put the data into a spreadsheet. We then constructed a bar graph that shows Mr. Valentine's homeroom data together. Tuesday will be the construction of 2 more bar graphs using Mr. Hanna's class and Mrs. Ireland's information. Wednesday We will finish up with Mrs. Rickert's data and construct a bar graph for it. We will also do the initial bean lab demonstration and collect some data. Thursday will bring forth a 5 question quiz which is quiz#2 located in my study guide tab above. We will then see the results of our bean lab and continue to work on the rest of the lab. Friday we will take a break from graphing receive an introduction to the Monarch Butterfly. We had 37 caterpillars in my class room that are going into the chrysalis stage and the waiting game starts. 12 to 14 days from now we will have Monarch Butterflies flying around our room. We shall release them onto the flowers we planted in the Seed Folks Garden and then they may start their journey to Mexico.
